I titled this painting Money Laundering to reflect the dual meaning of the term. On one hand, the scene takes place in front of a laundry, drawing a literal connection to the process of laundering money. On the other, the bad guys in the painting are engaged in a bank robbery, desperately trying to make fast cash by stealing what they hope to turn into something legitimate. Money laundering, in its true sense, is the financial crime of making illegally obtained money appear lawful by disguising its origins or nature. This image parallels that process, showing how criminals in the Wild West, much like today, go to great lengths to hide the taint of their ill-gotten gains. The good guys, of course, still trying to stop them.
